My family had the displeasure of holding a funeral there. Their idea of customer service is a complete farce.

-The deceased's name was misspelled on the urn. Magnus Poirier have failed to offer any kind of compensation or partial refund for this.

-They recommended a priest named Fred who promised to meet us at 15:00 to discuss our wishes. He showed up late, then spent 30 minutes on an aggressive, proselytizing, anti-science sermon instead of conducting an actual funeral. He did not remember the name of the deceased, did not talk about her, and did not bless the urn.

His talk was extremely divisive and disrespectful to the people of various faiths present at the funeral. Highlights include: our blind faith in banks and restaurant kitchens, a story about soldiers discussing the depth of the ocean, comparing faith in God to believing that Napoleon Bonaparte existed, and four words regarding the deceased (whose name he forgot).

My problem was with the people that work there. I wish I knew the man's name but unfortunately I do not, though I know he works at Magnus Poirier- this wasnt even regarding any funeral home services, but was just about human decency. I was on my way to work when next to the funeral home (and next to my parked car) was a van that had obviously been broken into, and there was nobody in sight on the entirety of the street- while dialing the police I had the untimely pleasure of having a rude angry man run up to me yelling at me and discriminating against me since I am 19 years old - assuming i was going to steal whatever leftover papers were scattered on the ground. I tried to speak with him calmly, pointing out i only had good intentions, when the man continued to yell, insult and discriminate against me. I never in my life had such an experience and it affected me greatly. I was even late for work when i decided to stop and call the police after seeing his vehicle and then i get treated in that manner. ALL THE MEANWHILE, a crowd of Magnus Poirer employees gathered in back of the building smoking cigarettes and watching all of this. Nobody stepped in to help, nothing.

When we pointed out how disappointing his conduct had been, he replied not by apologizing, but by saying "I respect your opinion but I was defending my faith" -- as if a funeral is the right time and place to do so. It's regrettable that he was too busy defending his faith to offer any comfort to people who'd gathered to mourn the death of a loved one.

The only positive feedback I can give is about the young men who served coffee and helped us carry things from the car when we arrived. Please don't give this place your time and money. They clearly don't care.

-They kept misspelling my mother's name and e-mail address, preventing us from receiving messages of condolences sent by friends and family via Magnus Poirier's website.

-While planning the reception, Magnus Poirier staff showed my family a room that had two separate screens to display pictures/video. We ended up in a room with one screen, which meant we had to adjust our plans but would have been fine if there'd been a simple phone call or e-mail to tell us about the change. It turned out that they had only shown us the two-screen room because the other one was undergoing renovations... which they failed to mention at any point.
